Lists

Lists allow you to display lists of content in different ways to give a unique look to your site while allowing clear and concise information to be displayed to a user.

Types of Lists

There are three main types of list that are most commonly used in Brightspot.

Basic

An example of a basic list type

A basic list is simply listing content that will not change and point a user to the specific content you'd like them to see.

As shown from the picture, simply select the content that you would like to be added to the list by clicking on the search button. Multiple content types can be selected while in the selection menu.

A basic list is good when you simply need to show the info from the items on your page.

Advanced

An advanced list adds more capabilities to your standard basic list. It creates each item that you choose into it's own promo module. Inside the module it will pre-populate the information from the item that can be modified if needed.

This customization will allow you to change titles, descriptions and logo associated with the items. An advanced list is good to use when you want to list items that are there but need to change the basic info to display on your site.

Dynamic

An example of a Dynamic List

A dynamic list type has a nifty feature where it can automatically populate the list without you having to select what you want in the list. The list can either be filled by content types (article, tags, events, etc.) or by content tags with a certain tag attached to them.

As an example, if you had a dynamic list with the tag "Stories" it would list all articles or content types with the tag stories on it. If, in the future you added another article on your site and attached the "Stories" tag to it, it will fill up that part of the list without you having to change anything. This makes it ideal to "create and forget" about the list. The other list types require you to manually add the new article to the list.

How do I make an accordion list?

October 12, 2020 04:56 PM
An Accordion List can be added as a content item found under list styles. Contents can be added through an advanced list using a Rich Text module, with the title as the visible field and the text as the dropdown field. Contents can also be added on a basic list using the “External Content Item” module under a similar format. Brightspot currently does not allow for an accordion list within an accordion list.

How do I add a search within a list module?

October 12, 2020 04:52 PM
The Section Search is a new feature on Brightspot which allows individuals to create a search for the content of a specific section, including the results in a dynamic list. To start, create a new Site Search. Select a “Section” from the dropdown menu and set the search settings to your desired results. Next, open the Section. Under Section Overrides, open the Header tab and select your newly created Search option from the dropdown. This allows the Section Search to appear as the designated search page instead of the inherited site search. This process was also demonstrated in the July 2020 Recent Releases meeting, found at https://sites.byu.edu/docs/user-group-meetings/recent-releases-july-2020 .
