How to Work with Lists

Add a list to a page

Lists can be added to a page, homepage, or section (not an article).

  1. Add content by clicking the +Add button beneath the Content heading.
  2. Choose a list style in the content module window (this tutorial uses Card, Image on Top)
  3. Optionally, add a title and description. These appear above the list.

Choose a list type


Beneath the Items title is a dropdown menu to select the type of list you'll be using. The system is set to only allow an item to appear once on a page, so if you have a link to an item in a promo or another list, it won't appear in any new lists you create.

Basic List

This is the default setting. A basic list contains only links to other items in your site. You'll choose and order each item that you want to have appear in the list.

  1. Click the + button below the Basic dropdown to open a search window
  2. In the search window, click on one or multiple items to add to the list. The items will appear in the list in the order that you've clicked them.
  3. Close the search window using the X button in the top right.
  4. Reorder the list items if needed by dragging items up and down.
  5. The list pulls in the promo information from each item you've selected. (See the promo training for more information.)

Dynamic List

A dynamic list contains links to pages that are added to the list based on certain attributes rather than explicitly chosen.

  1. Specify the type of item (page, article, section, etc.) that should appear in the list.
  2. Choose the number of items that should appear in the list.
  3. Choose other attributes to limit the items that appear in the list, such as Time Period, Tags, Podcasts, and Event Categories.
  4. Choose how the list should be sorted.
  5. If desired, choose and order Pinned Items that you'd like always to appear in the list in certain positions.
  6. Optionally, add a content to appear when nothing is in the list under the No Results Module.
  7. In the Hierarchy area, you can also specify that the dynamic content should come from a certain site section.

Advanced List

An Advanced list contains links to external content, or customized promos.

  1. Add an item to the list by clicking the Add dropdown below the Advanced dropdown.
  2. Choose Promo. A new promo module editor is added.
  3. Choose an item type.

    • Internal - To add a list item that links to a page in your site, leave the dropdown at Internal and use the search window to find the item you want to link to.
    • External - To add a list item that links to a page outside your site, chage the Item type to External and specify a URL.
  4. Add a title, description, and image as needed.
  5. Continue adding items using this same process until your list is complete.

Social Feed

Lists can be added to show Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter posts. This requires some additional configuration that is not covered in this tutorial. To learn more about social feed, click here.

Change a list template

If you want to use a different template for your list (templates are the design modules shown in the New Content module), you can easily do that without having to recreate your list.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the list editor panel.
  2. Open the List Style area.
  3. Change the Template from Automatic (or the current template) to another template of your choice.
