Content Templates

Add standard layout and content for a specific content type

Content templates allow you to create a standard starting point for common content. For example, if you regularly create pages that follow a set format, use the same modules, or use standard sections or tags, you can create a content template with common modules, settings, text, or images already in place. You can even add a button in the Quick Start menu on your Dashboard for easy access to create new content using your template.

Content templates should not be confused with themed templates that you might have used in other systems. They're a starting point for creating new content, but the new content doesn't keep any sort of reference to the template that was used to create it. This means that if you make a change to your content template, it won't have any effect on content you've created in the past.

Content templates are found in the main admin menu with the link Content Templates. If you don't have access to this page, contact a Brightspot administrator (websites@byu.edu).

Content templates are shared across the university, so it helps to put your site name or area in the Name field. Once you choose a content type under Template, you'll see the same controls you would if you were creating new content. You can add text to any field, change settings, or add modules Lead or Content areas (if those are part of that content type).
