Help Your Site Get Found on Google by using SEO

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of structuring and presenting your website content so that search engines (like Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools) can easily find, index, and display it in results. SEO involves optimizing metadata (title tags, meta descriptions), URLs, content structure, speed and mobile-friendliness, schema mark-up, sitemaps, and more.

Essentially, by implementing SEO into your website it gives your website a higher chance of showing up in a Google search.

How to use SEO

When editing an asset in Brightspot, up in the top there will be an "SEO" tab. Clicking on it will give you several SEO options. Below is a description of what each of these options do

SEO Image

  • Title: The page title appears in both browser tabs and Google search results. It tells search engines what your page is about and helps users decide to click.
  • Description: The meta description is the short summary under your page title in search results. It doesn’t affect ranking directly but can increase clicks by clearly explaining your page’s purpose.
  • Disable SEO Recommendations: This setting controls whether Brightspot provides automatic SEO feedback and alerts. Keeping recommendations enabled helps you optimize your content more effectively.
  • Focus Keyword Phrase: This is the main word or phrase you want your page to rank for in searches. Brightspot uses it to check how well your page content supports that keyword.
  • Meta Keywords: These are optional tags that list related search terms. They’re mostly outdated for Google but can still be useful for internal search or organization.
  • Suppress SEO Display Name: This option hides or shows the site’s name in the page title that appears in search results. Leaving it visible helps reinforce your brand identity.

What SEO Doesn't Do
It's important to note that filling out all of the SEO fields doesn't guarantee that your website will pull up first in a Google search. It just gives you website a higher probability for showing in a Google search when someone is searching for something that is related to your search. So while these steps are recommended, it does not guarantee that your site will show at all.
